This is how to create a CV that stands out
A good CV is like a business card: short, clear, and full of what makes you special.
Yet many people struggle with it. What should you include? How long should it be? And how do you ensure someone actually reads it?
Don't worry. With these tips, you'll create a CV that employers can't ignore.
1. Keep it clear and organised
A good CV is not a long document. One or two pages is more than enough.
Work from recent to older experiences and use clear headings such as Work Experience, Education, and Skills.
Use white space (yes, that's allowed) so it doesn’t look like everything is crammed together.
A CV that is easy to read makes a better impression right away.
💡 Tip: On Canva, you can find free modern CV templates that look sleek and professional.
2. Show what you can do, not just where you worked
Employers in technology particularly want to know what you did and what you can do.
So not just “Technician at X”, but for example:
Assembled and tested complete production lines, performed maintenance, and guided new colleagues.
That says much more than a simple job title.
3. Add your certificates
Do you have a VCA, forklift certificate or welding diploma? Include it proudly.
Those are exactly the things that technical companies are looking for.
You can even create a small section with the title Certificates, so they immediately catch the eye.
4. Photo or no photo?
Are you unsure whether to add a photo?
In the technology field, it’s not a must, but it's certainly allowed.
Choose a friendly and clear photo, not a holiday snap with sunglasses or a beer in hand.
A good photo makes your CV more personal and helps with that first impression.
5. Check the details
A small mistake can have a big impact.
So always check your spelling and contact details.
There's nothing worse than a good CV with an incorrect phone number.
👀 Extra tip: have someone else proofread your CV. Four eyes see more than two.
6. Create a version for online use
More and more applications are going digital.
So make sure your CV is easily readable as a PDF on mobile and computer.

7. Make sure it fits you
Your CV is more than a list. It shows who you are.
So stay true to yourself, tidy, honest, and clear.
Show what you are proud of and what you are looking for in your next job.
That not only makes your CV complete but also human.
